According to Raymond Sanchez, superintendent of the Ossining School District, the district has installed blue strobe lights on the exterior of all buildings districtwide that will alert anyone outside of a potential threat.
The additions are intended to notify individuals on the exterior of the building that there is a potential threat to the building and they should not try to enter the building, Sanchez said in a letter to parents.
"We believe this will help us effectively communicate with students, families and community members during an emergency," he said.
Sanchez asked parents to discuss the new lights with their children so they will know the purpose of the new system.
"As always, the safety and security of our students is our top priority," he added.
The system works by administrators pressing a button inside the building which will activate the lights, sound an alarm and connect directly to area police.
The district is also planning to add the system to noisy areas such as the gyms and cafeterias.
